Getting to know Brad Lewis

Our second instalment of our ‘getting to know’ this month is on 38-year-old Brad Lewis, AKA, Blue.

A former racer himself in the Victorian Road Racing Championship (VRRC), motorcycle racing has always been in Lewis’ blood from a very young age. 2020 marks his ninth straight year with the Next Gen Motorsports team, as the number one mechanic on Glenn Allerton’s #14 Maxima BMW S 1000RR in the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK), which he expresses that he simply loves.

When this likeable character is not spinning the tools at an ASBK round, you might find Lewis shooting some hoops on basketball court, or spending time with his young family.

Here are some of the questions we asked and this is what he has to say…

D.O.B: 30th September 1981

Height: Taller than Greg Stevens

Nickname: Blue

Instagram: @brad_lewis20

Facebook: Brad Lewis

Where do you live? Point Cook, Victoria. It’s 22km south-west of the CBD. It’s also the home of RAAF Base Point Cook, the birthplace of the Royal Australian Air Force, and is the current home of the RAAF Museum

Day Job: Electrical Instrumentation Tech

Racing achievement you are most proud of: Opening round of the 2013 Australian Superbike Championship at Symmons Plains in Tasmania when we placed first every session. That was pretty cool I have to admit.

Hidden talent: Eating the most amount of ice creams in a night. Anyone want to challenge me; I wish them luck!

Favourite track and why? Winton Motor Raceway. It’s a great layout with a mixture of fast and slow corners. And the drive up on the Hume Highway is an added bonus. It’s simply thrilling rolling along at 110km/hr

Favourite sport besides motorcycle racing? Basketball and women’s diving

What can’t you live without? Air and food. Definitely not forgetting Cornetto ice cream as well!

Favourite holiday destination? Tasmania, its an amazing part of the world down there.

Favourite movie? Days of Thunder. Who doesn’t love that movie!

Favourite TV show: House, Shameless, Sons of Anarchy and Home & Away. Can’t go past Alf Stewart’s famous quotes such as Stone the flamin’ crows and Ya flamin’ galah.

Favourite food? Would have to say Indian Food

If you could be any superhero for one day, who would you be? Mr Incredible, what’s it now with my Son

What is your favourite type of music/band or artist? I’m a Nickelback fan for sure, so rock music all the way.

Greatest inspiration and why: Anyone that gives 100% in their chosen field, I admire people who work hard.

Who is your racing hero? Nicky Hayden. He just wore his heart on his sleeve when he raced and was just a down to earth bloke. He’s sadly missed that’s for sure.

Pub crawl or dinner for two? Pub Crawl! Why? Well, what happens on those pub crawls, stays on the pub crawls right?

If you could spend a day with any motorcycle racer, past or present, who would it be and why? Nicky Hayden, for his never give up attitude.

Two stroke or four strokes? Four strokes. They are a lot easier to work on than two strokes. Having to change main jets and so on to suit the weather and mixing up the fuel… What a headache. God bless four strokes.

Blonde or brunette? Blondes. Blondes have more fun, am I correct?

Beach Boys or Elvis? Elvis. He’s the King!

Speedway or Motocross? Supercross. The racing is unreal and out of this world. As a punter, you get a real ‘bang’ for your buck that’s for sure with Supercross.

MotoGP or WorldSBK? WorldSBK. Real motorcycles you can relate to. After last weekends round at Phillip Island as well, I think we are in for a great year of racing as well. Fingers crossed that both Tom Sykes and Eugene Laverty can get the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team up on top!

Who is the most famous person you have in your phone contacts? Wussel Colvin….
