Fourth and sixth row start for Allerton & Collins at Wakefield Park

Maxima BMW’s Glenn Allerton and Ted Collins will occupy the tenth and sixteenth place on the grid for tomorrows second round of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) at Wakefield Park.

Allerton, 38, managed to buy himself a ticket for Qualifying two after he posted a 58.444 in the dying minutes of Timed Practice, which saw him finishing in ninth place.

However, the former three times Australian Superbike Champion didn’t quite have the pace to improve any more for Qualifying two. Allerton, who will start his 163rd Australian Superbike race in race one tomorrow expressed that it was a difficult day for himself.

“I simply didn’t have the pace to be able to produce a good lap time. We could only manage a 58.260, which has slotted us in tenth place for the two twenty lap races for tomorrow,” said Allerton.

“Hopefully we’ll be bounce back tomorrow and score two good results in the races. I’ll sure be pushing as hard as I possibly can and be aiming to deliver the Next Gen Motorsports team and our sponsors a pair of good result,” finished Allerton.

After a huge turnaround overnight and this morning from the Maxima BMW team, it was a solid a result for Ted Collins, no matter what the outcome was. Unfortunately, due to the crash yesterday, Collins was a bit stiff and sore which definitely didn’t help him throughout the day.

In saying that, the 2017 Australian Supersport Champion still managed to go four tenths faster than what he did on Friday. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for qualifying, which saw him finishing in sixteenth position with a time of 59.100 which was posted in qualifying one.

“Hopefully with working with the RaceSafe Medical team I’ll be able to come back tomorrow a bit fitter than what I am today and be able to fight for a good position,” explained Collins, who did a total of fourteen laps in qualifying.” said Collins.

“I understand that I’ll have to work fairly hard in the races to get ourselves back up to where we should be.”

Collins’ explained that his Maxima BMW S 1000RR felt really good throughout the day. It was obviously tricky going out this morning on what was basically a new bike. There were a lot of differences to what Collins was riding on Friday.

Collins explained; “I went out there and got a feel for the bike. On top of that I had to regain my confidence. After that I was right. I simply was unable to ride to my full potential and that showed in my lap times.”

Heading into tomorrow’s two races, Collins is focusing on getting a good start in both races and to be aggressive.

“I’ll have to push my way through the field, if we want to score good points tomorrow.”

Collins finished off by saying; “I have to say a massive thanks to the entire Maxima BMW team. When they got to the track this morning at 6am, there was basically a frame. From there they built the bike up from there and supplied me a great motorcycle for today. They did everything they possibly could to get me ready to go for today which I’m ever so grateful for.”

The Australian Superbike Championship will have a ten minute warm up session which begins at 9:40am AEDT, with race one getting underway at 11:40am. Race two will commence at 2:40pm AEDT.
