Ninth and eleventh place finish for Allerton & Collins on the opening day of practice at the ‘Island’

The opening day of practice for round one of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) has seen Maxima BMW’s Glenn Allerton and Ted Collins finish in ninth and eleventh place in the thirty minute practice session.

Allerton stopped clock with a 1min34.137 around the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. According to the three times Australian Superbike Champion, it was an “interesting session”, as track position was really hard to get due to traffic. In saying that, Allerton and the Maxima BMW team have learnt a lot and are eager for tomorrows second practice session and qualifying.

“Overall, the BMW S 1000RR is performing great which gives me a lot of confidence for the weekend ahead,” said Allerton.

For the 2017 Australian Supersport Champion, the opening practice session went quite well for him. This weekend will see Collins back on his race BMW S 1000RR. The session was all about Collins making sure everything was in order. Collins posted a 1min35.075 on his fourteenth lap out of a total of sixteen, and spent the first half of the session getting in the groove.

“We left the same tyres in the bike for the whole of the thirty-minute session. In the last ten minutes I pushed harder,” said Collins.

“I was reasonably happy with my lap time as a starting point. Eleventh isn’t a bad position, so we’ll go from there and have a good day tomorrow,” concluded Collins, who will start his 51st race start with the Next Gen Motorsports in the opening twelve lap race on Saturday morning.
