Maxima BMW’S Pairing’s to start from ninth and twelfth on the grid

Glenn Allerton will kick start the 2019 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) from the third row in ninth place at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit after nailing a 1min 33.051 in qualifying.

The 38-year-old New South Welshman was happy enough with the lap time he produced and the progression that the he and the team have made.

“Obviously I’m not happy with the starting position as we knew we needed to do 32’s in qualifying,” expressed Allerton.

“Aiden [Wagner] really stood out in the qualifying session as the front guy. We are only .4 of a second from 2nd place, which is really promising signs that we are that close.”

To Allerton’s credit, he produced his lap time by himself, as he had no one to chase.

Allerton explained; “I wanted to try and get a tow off someone, but it didn’t happen. That’s just how the session sometimes goes.”

Allerton is now looking forward to the three races across this weekend (two on Saturday, one on Sunday). He does need to get a good start and push forward in the early stages of the twelve lap races. The former three times Australian Superbike Champion feels like he needs a race under his belt to simply understand why he I’m losing time in sector one.

“I do feel pretty good in that sector, but the sector splits are telling us this is where we need to work harder. We will look at some of the data and figure it out and go from there,” concluded Allerton.

Ted Collins, who recorded a 1min34.035 had a pretty positive day, he and the team made a lot of improvements from yesterday.

Qualifying is usually not Collins’ strong point and he openly admitted that he did struggle.

“I didn’t even match my fastest time from practice, which is disappointing,” said Collins.

“In saying that, we are still in a reasonable spot to start from for the races this weekend. I believe I can get some good starts on the Maxima BMW S1000RR and get in amongst the front leading group and do our best to go with them,” finished Collins.
